Successful meetup morning for over-65s from Utrecht East at Hotel Mitland

Utrecht, July 5, 2026 – On Saturday, July 4, Hotel Mitland organized a friendly morning get-together for (lonely) people aged 65 and over from Utrecht East. With this initiative, Hotel Mitland wanted to bring older people from the neighborhood together and offer them the opportunity to meet new people, exchange experiences, and engage in conversation with one another.

The gathering took place on the waterside terrace of Restaurant Vlonders, the restaurant of Hotel Mitland. In a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, visitors enjoyed free coffee, tea and fresh pastries. The morning was entirely devoted to meeting and connection. There was plenty of catching up, laughter and getting to know neighbors, which quickly created a warm and convivial atmosphere.

The morning was enthusiastically received and had a large turnout of around 85 local residents. Many visitors took the opportunity to make new contacts and indicated that they found the gathering valuable. 

“We look back on a very successful morning in which meeting and connection were central,” said Hotel Mitland. “It was wonderful to see how easily people started talking to one another. Given the success and the positive responses, we will certainly organize these kinds of gatherings more often in the future.”

This morning get-together was made possible in part thanks to a contribution from the Utrecht Entrepreneurs’ Fund, which supports initiatives that contribute to a strong and engaged local community.

With this initiative, Hotel Mitland underscores the importance of social connection within the local community and hopes to contribute to reducing loneliness among older people in Utrecht East.
