Sustainability certification for the hospitality sector

Hotel Mitland is certified with Green Key. From energy and water savings to waste, mobility, and our green surroundings: on this page you can read which measures we take and how we continue to work on improvement.

Green Key certified

Our efforts are underlined by the Green Key certification, the international sustainability label for companies in the hospitality sector. Green Key sets requirements across various themes, including energy, water, waste, mobility, and corporate social responsibility.

The certification helps us to continue taking a critical look at our operations and to implement further improvements wherever possible.

Conscious choices in and around the hotel

In various parts of the hotel, we take measures to reduce our energy and water consumption and our impact on the environment. Think of energy-saving facilities, careful use of water and waste, and investments in our green surroundings.

Together with our guests

Our guests can also contribute to this. For example, by using energy and water consciously, separating waste, and choosing a more sustainable mode of transport wherever possible. They can also take part in our sustainability program “Mitland’s Green Backyard.”

This way, we work together to reduce our impact on the surroundings.

Our attention to sustainability extends beyond the walls of the hotel. Located next to a protected nature reserve, we feel strongly connected to the green environment. In collaboration with the Municipality of Utrecht and the Voorveldse Polder Foundation, we invest in the preservation and enhancement of biodiversity in the adjacent park, a beloved spot for walkers, cyclists, and runners.

Help prevent waste and receive a voucher

Unique to this project is that our guests can also participate. Those who, during a longer stay, opt out of housekeeping or room service not only help save resources, but also support the foundation financially. As a thank-you, we offer a free drink in our restaurant or at the bowling alley. This way, small choices contribute directly to a greener Utrecht, with tangible improvements for nature and the community around our hotel.
