Base during tours of France, Italy, and Spain
It is not surprising that Hotel Mitland in Utrecht, due to its central location, is an ideal base for sports teams visiting the Netherlands. The major events organized in Utrecht also bring special guests to Hotel Mitland. “What absolutely stands out is the Grand Départ of the Tour de France in 2015,” says Mirjam Zuidam, manager of Groups Conference & Eventsales. For over a week, the entire organizing committee of the Tour de France from Paris was a guest. “Our hotel was used as a base for the organization. But in addition, three complete cycling teams were also guests at our hotel,” Zuidam recalls. The athletes apparently liked it, as during the later start of the Tour of Italy (Giro) in 2010 and that of Spain (Vuelta) in 2022, Hotel Mitland became the base for the absolute top cyclists in the world.

Hockey players often guests
With Kampong as the hockey stronghold a stone's throw away, hockey players are also often guests at Hotel Mitland. Pro League teams playing at Kampong keep coming back. “They seem to like it, as it turns out. It is always nice to see how well-organized these international teams are, but also how pleasant the hockey players are as guests in our hotel,” says Mirjam Zuidam.

English female footballers guests for two weeks
During the European Women's Football Championship in 2017, the England team stayed at Hotel Mitland. England reached the semi-finals (and the Dutch women's team won the final and thus became European champions). The centrally located hotel in the Netherlands was the ideal base for the English team that played matches throughout the Netherlands. England stayed for two weeks, and the entire team plus about 50 staff members occupied a large part of the hotel. Meeting rooms were converted into fitness areas and spaces where the kits and footwear were taken care of. Zuidam: “We look back on this very positively. A group staying with us for so long is rare, but the atmosphere was always excellent.”
